Whether painting flowers in the Garden setting or a Still Life, I am continually inspired and amazed by the power of watercolor to describe nature, and the natural and often surprising reaction of the pigments as they combine with the water on my paper. My paintings are highly thought out and designed, and I spend much time on the composition and drawing; once the drawing is transferred to watercolor paper, I feel free to explore the magic of this truly creative medium.

Native Iris and the many other form of the Iris, including Bearded Iris, Louisiana Iris, and Japanese Iris, a multitude of Roses from my own garden as well as horticulture sites near and far, and garden flowers from brugmansia to rhododendrom, have been the inspiration for many of my watercolors.

I was introduced to the exotic and fascinating world of orchids by my friend Mary Nisbet whose local greenhouses California Orchids, contain thousands of varieties, and I’ve been obsessed by their strange beauty ever since. My watercolors have illustrated the theme of the Pacific Orchid Exposition for 20 consecutive years, 1996-2015.
